Did you know that VISUAL 8 allows you to store macros within the database itself?
That’s right! Over the years we have seen a lots of interesting methods used by people to distribute and manage their macros. However, it looks like INFOR got this right and we no longer need to deal with macros outside of the standard VISUAL interface! This is truly an exciting moment for long-time VISUAL users.
Here’s the basic information that will allow you to see the logic involved:
First, if you like the way you currently manage macros, you don’t have to change. You make this decision under Application Global Maintenance.
OK, so now you’ve decided to keep your macros in the database. How do you get your existing macros loaded? The solution is in the ADMIN menu.
Since it is likely that all of your users should not have every single macro, access is controlled through Profile/User security.
As you can see below, there is a new tab under Profiles. You assign the macros you wish to associate to the profile. You would then assign users to the profile, which gives them rights to the macro. Users not assigned to the profile will not use or even see the macro, giving the SYSADM centralized control over all MACROs.
