Did you know that you can Correct Posted Labor Tickets in VISUAL?

While you can't delete or change operation or indirect account information on a posted labor ticket in Infor10 ERP Express (VISUAL), it is possible to set the hours, pieces and hourly rate to zero. This actually has the effect of voiding the ticket. A new ticket can then be entered with the correct data.

This edition of VISUAL Did You Know?™ is brought to you by BizTech VISUAL Consultant, Jim Kistner.

Your company needs an ERP system. Where do you start? Part II

A Four-Part Series that will take you through the basics of evaluating and selecting the right ERP system for your organization.

Part II: Define Your Business Issues & Set Your Objectives

The second step of evaluating and selecting the right Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for your organization is to define the business issues that your company needs to solve and then set your objectives.  In this step, you aren’t listing what you want the software to do, you are listing what you want your organization to achieve by implementing a new ERP System.  This ‘objectives list’ may contain items such as: ‘We want to improve productivity by 20 percent,’ ‘We want to reduce operational costs by 15 percent,’ or ‘We want to reduce inventories by 10 percent.’  On the other hand, the objectives list should not contain items about specific software features such as: ‘We want a report that…’ or ‘We want automatic emailing of… or ‘We want to push one button to do everything.’

I have seen many companies struggle in this area of the ERP Selection Process, nothing worse than getting to the table with the software vendor and not having a clear cut set of objectives. To come up with a good objectives list, invite everyone if possible - especially the people who will not be part of your ERP selection team- to contribute to the list.  After coming up with a solid list- organize, prioritize and select the top three to five items that your company needs to achieve.  This is your focused vision for your organization’s ERP Implementation.

Do the executives in your company agree with the selection team’s vision?  If they do not agree, either convince them of your wisdom, or modify the list to meet the Executive vision.   At the end of the day, your team must agree on your company’s objectives- you’ll be judging all of the ERP software packages on how well they will help you achieve that list of objectives.

BizTech's 2012 VISUAL User Conference a Great Success

We are excited to report that our 2nd Annual VISUAL User Conference, ‘Moving Forward with Infor10 ERP Express (VISUAL)’ was a great success!

The event, which took place March 18-20, 2012 at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza in Chicago, Illinois, brought together more than 125 attendees from across the United States.

“We have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the attendees of this year’s conference,” commented Joe Zalewski, Managing Partner and COO at BizTech. “I’m very proud of the BizTech Team for putting forth an amazing effort from start to finish. I want to thank everyone who attended, especially Infor, the presenters and our sponsors, for making our 2012 VISUAL User conference a first–class event.”

Mike Brown, BizTech’s Managing Partner and CEO added, “It was great to see so many people eager to learn new ways they can move their own companies forward in this new economy.  Everyone at BizTech is excited about the direction Infor is going with their software.  Our team did a fantastic job at this conference, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results based on the feedback we’ve received.”

From opening to close, the conference was packed with VISUAL-related information.  At the Opening General Session, BizTech’s CEO, Mike Brown, talked about the theme of the conference, “Moving Forward.”  Also, Keynote Speaker Mark Humphlett, Director of ERP Industry & Product Marketing at Infor Global Solutions, spoke about how Infor is moving forward with the Infor10 strategy and the value that it brings to the VISUAL Customer base.

Following the Opening Session, the National VISUAL Users Group gave a State of the Union address, discussing the newly formed VEGUG and its’ mission to bring together all regional VISUAL User Groups to form a strong union and develop a platform to deliver product enhancement requests to Infor. In addition, Danna Nelson, Senior Product Manager for VISUAL, presented the VISUAL Road Map- outlining the future of the Infor10 ERP Express (VISUAL) software, including version 7.1 to be released soon.

On the first evening of the conference, the Welcome Reception Networking Event sponsored by Insite Software proved to be a great time for all attendees to network with one another and get a look at product offerings from several companies in the VISUAL Solutions Center.  VISUAL-related products and services from Base2 Corporation, Compusoft Development, Data Communication Solutions, Focused E-Commerce, Insite Software, Rubber Tree Systems, Truefit Solutions, and were featured.

At the Second City Comedy Club Networking Event, sponsored by Focused E-Commerce, attendees had an exciting evening both watching the hilarious Second City All-Stars Improv Show, and networking with fellow VISUAL users, the entire BizTech VISUAL Team and Infor Representatives.  Manny Guevara of Crystallume said the event was “Awesome! A Great Time!”

Throughout the conference, over 30 educational breakout sessions covering a variety of VISUAL Manufacturing, Financial, Technical and General topics were offered.  Attendees were also able to schedule very productive One-on-One Consulting Sessions with BizTech’s VISUAL Consultants.  “I thought the quality of the presentations, the information and knowledge transfer were excellent!” said Candy Cole, IT Manager at FasTest, Inc.  She added, “This was the best VISUAL conference sponsored by a Channel Partner/Consulting Company I've been to yet.”  Don Fodor, Systems Manager at Exhibit Concepts said, “Each year, I learn more about BizTech’s capabilities.  I also enjoy networking with other companies and finding out how everyone is using VISUAL.”

The entire BizTech Team would like to thank all attendees, presenters, sponsors & exhibitors for making this conference a success.  Also, many thanks to Exhibit Concepts for producing all of the signage used at the conference.
